JOHNSON'S® Launches Melt Away Stress Body Care Line to Help Women Melt Away Daily Tension and Leading to Better Relaxation

SKILLMAN, N.J., May 9, 2007-According to a new national survey conducted on behalf of JOHNSON'S®, the skincare expert, a majority of U.S. women (57 percent) report that they have experienced a significant increase in stress over the past five years. Almost all women surveyed (91 percent) indicate that if they could find 10 minutes of free time daily to alleviate stress, it would improve the rest of their day, and one third say that one of their most effective ways to relieve stress is by receiving a lotion or oil massage. The release of the survey coincides with the launch of the new JOHNSON'S® Melt Away Stress line of products, which were created in response to women's rising stress levels and the need for relaxing and calming products.

In the survey findings, when citing the reasons behind their stress, women overwhelmingly point to life occurrences such as buying their first homes (31 percent) and annual tax deadlines (20 percent) as being more stressful than getting married or preparing for the spring and summer bathing suit season.

The poll also reveals that nearly a third of women (31 percent) look to the nation's National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice as a real life role model for handling stress. When asked which female television characters handle stress the best, more than half of respondents pick actress America Ferrera, who plays Betty Suarez, the star of Ugly Betty, and Maura Tierney, who plays Dr. Abby Lockhart on ER.

While stress impacts women in many ways, 65 percent report that they experience tight muscles when they are stressed. Furthermore, 51 percent of women say that stress prevents them from looking their best and 24 percent experience dry, itchy skin as a result of stress. Additionally, in a previous consumer test, women who used the JOHNSON'S® SOFTWASH™ Melt Away Stress 24 Hour Moisturizing Wash in the shower said they felt as relaxed as if they had taken a warm bath. A JOHNSON'S® consumer opinion survey also reveals key insights into women's busy schedules and experiences with stress:

  • More than half of women (59%) say that stress negatively affected their relationships with family and friends while 48 percent cite a negative effect on their relationships with significant others
  • 46 percent indicate that stress keeps them from achieving their goals
  • 75 percent of women indicate feeling irritable when stressed

The survey, conducted by Caravan Opinion Research Corporation, was designed to examine current consumer opinion on and experience with stress and its impact on women's lives. This survey of 1,017 adult women aged 18 years and older was conducted by telephone from March 8–12, 2007. The survey provides a confidence level of 95 percent +/- 3 to 4 percent.
